Cocofelol is a cooperative founded in La Labour Ocotepeque, which has been working diligently on behalf if their coffee producers since 2000. The organisation promotes sustainable agricultural practices and uses many waste products from the processing of coffee as organic fertiliser.
During harvest between November - April the coffee is collected manually when ripe before being transported to a centralised washing station for pulping, washing and drying.
One of the contributing farms for Cocafelol is Las Toreras, ownded by Edgar Dubon.
In 2002, Edgar Dubon travelled to the United States. He was there for four years before returning home and buying the plot of land that has become Finca Las Toreras. Coffee had been a part of the family history, and so it was natural to start cultivating coffee to continue the tradition. It is also a labour of love for him. Plants on the farm are shade grown, with shade provided not only by native species, but also cropping trees such as orange, peach, and avocado, as well as timber trees of cedar.
